Thomas More

In 2023, I began my Communication studies at Thomas More.
I am taking various courses such as marketing, digital marketing, PR, commercial communication, visual design, trendwatching and coolhunting, creative thinking, Spanish, English, event management, audio and video, and personal branding. These courses, which I had in my first year, provide a solid foundation for my upcoming studie years. Additionally, I had to complete assignments for several courses, which you can view here.

Visual design

Record Cover

For my Visual Design course, I was assigned to design a record cover. We had to choose an album cover and recreate it in an art style. I chose the Romanticism style and selected Masego’s album “Studying Abroad: Extended Stay.” This is the new cover I created for it.

Visual design

Event poster ZooMedia

For my Visual Design course, I was assigned to create an event poster for Zoomedia. We had to use wordplay and take a photo that matched it. Then, we had to incorporate the text into the photo, which was challenging as we had to find the best placement for the text.

commercial communication

For my Commercial Communication exam, I had to create an advertisement for a brand. I chose Dopper, known for its sustainable water bottles. The advertisement had to include a compelling headline, a concise and engaging text, and a clear call to action (CTA). Additionally, the ad had to effectively convey the brand’s message and appeal to the target audience.

Creative Thinking

Self-image

For my Creative Thinking course, I was tasked with creating a self-portrait that communicates what is truly important to us in life to the viewer. I was given complete freedom in how to approached this; anything was allowed. The key requirement was that my work had to be of high quality. I had to carefully consider the message we wanted to convey and executed the assignment with great care.

Creative Thinking

Walk, Walk, Walk

For my Creative Thinking assignment, I got a unique challenge dubbed “Walk, walk.” The task was to take a one-hour stroll, following a pattern of left and right turns at intersections. Along the way, I had to take a captivating photo every ten minutes, aiming for at least four shots by the end.

Afterwards with these photos, I need to choose one that spoke to me. With this chosen image, I had to create a poster or Instagram story that showcased Mechelen as an open-air museum. It’s a city where history comes alive, with figures like the Knights of the Golden Fleece and Margareta of Austria seemingly walking its streets.
